Priest in Peril
To access the lands east of Varrock in RuneScape, RuneScape Members will be faced with either a stone cliff or an impassable river. The only way to get through it is to pass through a temple, and the door is locked. Basically, in order to pass through and access the eastern lands of Morytania and Port Plasmatys and reach the Ectofuntus must complete the Priest in Peril quest.
Priest in Peril is one of the easier quests in RuneScape, and if done right, the quest only takes half an hour of RuneScape play to complete. Basically, King Roald has lost contact with the temple east of Varrock and needs you to see what is happening.
To do this Priest in Peril quest, you need to be a RuneScape member and be able to kill level 30 RuneScape enemies with your melee skill. Items you will need for the quest are 50 rune essence or pure essence and one bucket. Since you start in Varrock, now is a good time to mine or buy the Rune Essence and buy a bucket at the RuneScape grand exchange.
Start out by speaking to King Roald. He can be found in the Varrock palace east of the center of Varrock. Enter the front gate and go through the right door. He is usually in one of the rooms on the east part of the palace. Ask him for a quest and he will tell you contact is lost with the temple and to check out what is going on.
Go to the temple east of Varrock. The best way is to go east on the main road then cut up below the sawmill after you pass the city wall. Follow the paved road until you reach the temple and knock on the door. The monk of zamorak will pose as the priest and tell you to kill the guard dog. Tell him that you will, then head north and enter the door to the dungeon. Kill the guard dog, and then knock at the temple door again. The Zamorak monk will not be of much help; let him yack away then go back to King Roald like he suggested.
King Roald will give you a piece of his mind. Basically, the dog was guarding the palace and killing it made things worse. He tells you to go back and fix the problem ASAP. Withdraw the bucket and at least 22 rune essence but no more than 25. The essence must not be in note form. Then return to the temple.
Enter the temple and kill a level 30 monk of zamorak who will drop a gold key. Go to the third floor and talk to Drezel, the priest in peril. He will give you the option of whether or not you have time to learn about the holy river. You do have the time. He tells you the river protects Varrock from its enemies through the power of Saradomin. However now that the guard dog is dead, the enemy is able to breach the walls and desecrate the river. You need to get Drezel out of the cell and also disable the vampire that is guarding him.
Go to the dungeon and search the monuments until you find the one with the iron key. Use the golden key with the monument and you have swapped it for the iron key. Then fill your pail with water from the center of the dungeon. Pay attention to this part; this is a RuneScape shortcut I discovered while doing the quest; you will avoid an unnecessary trip back to the dungeon. Go back to Drezel and open the cell door with the key. Before you talk to Drezel, drop the bucket. Remember that it is dropped so make sure you pick it back up before it vanishes. Let Drezel talk, he says basically that the vampire needs to be dealt with and he needs a pail of water. He tells you to go back to the dungeon and draw a pail of water. Instead, you will pick it up off of the floor where you dropped it!
Talk to drezel again and he should bless the water for you. Use the blessed water on the coffin and then talk to Drezel one more time. He says to meet him in the dungeon. Go down and past the monuments into the tunnel that exits from there. Drezel will be in the small room. The river has been profaned and Drezel does not know what to do, and you tell him about rune essence. After you tell him you will get some, talk to him again and give him the essence you have. Go to a bank, get the rest of the essence, and give it to Drezel.
The Priest in Peril quest is complete! You get a special dagger called Wolf Bane, 1,406 prayer points, and access to the RuneScape kingdoms east of the river. .
